Your questions about free NHS contraception, choosing your pill and getting your next supply.
Yes. Eligible patients can get oral contraception free through the NHS pharmacy contraception service. With Pill By Post, you start with online health questions, then have a pharmacist video consultation and collect your approved pill from a branch. The private home delivery service is separate and is not free NHS contraception.
Yes. You can start your contraception request with Pill By Post without booking a GP appointment first. A pharmacist reviews your health information and checks whether a pill is suitable. If you need a different type of care or further medical checks, they will explain the next step rather than approve an unsuitable treatment.
The combined pill contains oestrogen and progestogen. The mini pill, also called the progestogen-only pill, contains progestogen without oestrogen. The right option depends on your medical history, other medicines and preferences. Your pharmacist will check suitability before supplying either type; the combined pill may also require recent blood pressure and weight information.
Start with our free eligibility checker, then complete the consultation questions. The checker is an initial guide, not a prescription or a guarantee of approval. Your pharmacist confirms eligibility and whether the requested pill is safe for you, using your health history and any measurements needed for your chosen treatment.
Private Pill By Post orders can be delivered to your door in discreet outer packaging after pharmacist approval. The NHS pathway currently uses branch collection, not home delivery. You can choose from our five local pharmacies across Manchester and Liverpool. Delivery and collection are separate options, so check which service you select when starting your request.
Request your next supply before your current pack runs out and tell the pharmacy about any changes to your health or medicines. A repeat request still needs a safety review; it is not automatic approval. For the NHS pathway, follow-up supplies may cover three or six months, depending on the pharmacist's assessment. If you have already run out or missed pills, ask a pharmacist for advice rather than waiting for a reorder.
